How I Gained Only 17 Pounds In My Pregnancy Without A Perfect Diet

    January 10, 2023 /

Because recovering from childbirth is much more than just losing pounds (i.e., hormones need to rebalance, bones, organs, and muscles and connective tissue must readjust), having less to lose will offer an advantage after delivering your baby. I, like so many new moms, was scared of what pregnancy might do to my body. I knew how good diet and exercise were but I was still nervous. Morning sickness plagued me for 24 hours which made healthy eating almost impossible. I stuck mainly to crackers, ginger tea, pop-tarts, some fruits, and snowballs. I still managed to take a prenatal vitamin but was not proud of my diet and was barely able…

Should You Limit Carbs While Pregnant?

    January 11, 2021 /

Low carbohydrate diets seem to be the talk of the town. Are they right for everyone? Are they a good idea while pregnant? Carbohydrates have a bad reputation and perhaps rightfully so when generally referring to the type of carbohydrates consumed in the SAD (Standard American Diet). It is easy to label all carbs as bad and write them off but perhaps we should understand the role they play in the body, specifically while pregnant. What exactly is a carbohydrate? Simply put, carbs are a source of energy used by the body and can either be simple or complex. The quality of carbs matters and should be considered when deciding…

Should You Eat And Exercise According To Your DNA?

    May 15, 2020 /

Perhaps you’ve seen new trends emerging that promise better results in weight loss and fitness when you eat and exercise according to your DNA. This might be especially enticing if you have struggled with managing your weight for many moons. You may believe that you will enjoy these types of foods more or will want to exercise regularly if they align with your genes. What about in pregnancy; can living a lifestyle that “honors” your DNA help impact the health profile of your child before birth? Rapidly developing technology gives humans more access to resources that are life-changing. For instance, genetic testing, that is relatively cheap and easy to get,…

3 Ways To Trick Yourself Into Eating Healthier

    March 14, 2020 /

Good nutrition is important for long-term health. Nothing you didn’t know already, but what if you hate the way most healthy food tastes? Should you force-feed yourself? No, but you can “trick” yourself into incorporating more wholesome foods. While you may be fed up with how you look and feel, making health related changes is uncomfortable and usually comes with a big side of resistance. You likely have an idea about what it will take to achieve healthy results and it’s often something that feels like a punishment. No wonder most resolutions fall flat within a few weeks or less. So much of creating a healthy lifestyle is about honoring your…

Achieve Lasting Results While Training Online

    January 14, 2020 /

You have likely tried diets and exercise programs that haven’t worked well for you. Perhaps initially you lost some poundage, but not long after you put it all back on; maybe even more than what you started with. This is defeating and makes it easy to tune out preaching professionals concerning healthy lifestyle choices. What if it didn’t work because you didn’t truly understand what was best for YOUR body? It’s tempting to jump on the latest and greatest diet/fitness fad wagon. While they may produce results for some, it may not work for others and worse, might cause health issues. It’s exciting to dive into a new program but…

Why Does It Seem So Much Easier For Guys To Lose Weight & Get Fit?

    August 1, 2018 /

Many exercise programs are designed in a cookie cutter and progressively linear fashion without considering differences in men and women. Women have hormonal fluctuations in alignment with each phase of their menstrual cycle; these variations can impact energy levels which can affect the perceived quality of workouts. For instance, if you partake in a regular bootcamp class and feel full of zest on some days, but lethargic on others, you might be inclined to judge yourself negatively. Awareness of what stage of your cycle you are in is helpful when deciding what type of workout is best for you that day. Understanding the physiological process of menstruation can help women…

Getting Healthy When You Don’t Feel Like It

    July 9, 2018 /

The ego’s only perspective is based on survival, so if you have been surviving up until now, making new lifestyle changes won’t come without resistance from the ego. Yes, this includes health related changes that might actually cause you to live longer because the ego makes decisions based on the past. From a biological perspective, we have evolved to conserve energy so it is available when needed by the body. This is a great survival tool, but can have negative consequences when too much food, especially heavily processed food, is consumed. Highly processed foods are usually cheap, tasty, and convenient, but are full of chemicals, preservatives, and fillers. Until recently, we…
